Poole Library

Here is some photography I took today in Poole library. Most of the people in these pictures we got to speak to, and they all had very interesting stories to tell. Our new project is observing in a new space, taking in all our surroundings and reacting and asking questions. Interviewing these people helped us get an insight into how the library is used and the relevance of it in people's lives. I think I will hopefully get a chance to go back there and speak to more people about there time at the library. It could seem a little boring to some but when you look at all the little details it can be very interesting.

Berty's Playground

This was created for a narrative project on Berty. Berty is a made up character and the film shows only snippets of the beauty that is in Berty's everyday life. I filmed it all on a canon 5d mark 2, edited on premier pro.

BBC X 365 Design blog

I was asked to contribute a design for a news headline on the 10th January for a design blog called "BBC X 365". I searched through the BBC website and thought I'd go for "Panda deal clinched by Edinburgh zoo". Pandas are one of my favourite animals, so I was pretty happy with my choice of headline.

Barbican Leaflet - Whats on in October

The Barbican art gallery gives out information on the events for each month. We was given their October month and had to redesign it. The key part of this project was to think about the hierarchical system on the page, and how it engages the reader. This meant I also needed to think about format, I could manipulate the format so that the reader would follow the sequence of the events in the correct order.

At first I tried creating a standard booklet structure. Then I came up with being able to tear off every little part of the page. So that you could deconstruct the whole thing if you wanted to. The main idea was so that you could tear off the event you may be interested in and be able to keep it, but I thought it would be fun if you could do it so there was nothing left of it and it became something completely different. I really liked the finished idea as I think it was very easy to understand and read through it.

Jammmedia html email

Using the style of the animation I had created and Aaron's little characters, I need to create a new email template that Jammmedia can use and change slightly every time they want to send an email out. It didn't take very long to create as I had most of the design aspects already created. Vicky (another student on work experience) had earlier come up with the type that the "design create communicate" words are created in. As this little box design of "design create communicate" is going to be on the new Jammmedia business cards, I thought it was important to put it on there, to keep the style consistent. As I am doing more work for them, my design style may change slightly so I may need to come back to projects like this one and add things or take away things to make sure the styling is consistent also!

Jammmedia Animation!

After just over a week I have finally finished the animation for the new Jammmedia website! It was a really fun project as I could be really creative! Me and and Aaron (another person doing work experience) were asked to come up with a few ideas for it.

One of my ideas was using fingers, as there is only three of them in the team so I was thinking about using three fingers, one each representing each person.

Aaron came up with these really cute little people and I had an idea of a paper aeroplane coming in and then pulling words in and other objects being in it, that could also bring in words. After looking at our ideas, they liked both of them so we tried to combine them. In the end they choose my idea for the structure for the animation and Aaron's little people would be in it. Aaron also made the little people actually look like the Jammmedia team, so it felt a lot more personal to them.

I did have a few problems with the animation, such as when the first "hello" letters float into the animation, they weren't following the right guide path and it was getting a bit confusing because there was so many on the stage. In the end I recreated the guide paths as it was just getting to complicated, and then it worked!

I created most of the things in the animation using found objects. Such as the aeroplane, kite and hot air balloon. The hot air balloon was created from a photograph I took of a balloon, then I drew over it, scanned it back in and then added colours in photoshop.

Its summer time! wahoo! Finished my first year already! Cant believe how quick its flown by! Got a few holidays to look forward to and Reading festival, cannot wait! I've also got some work experience at a design agency called Jammmedia, so it should be good! Pretty nervous about it incase they don't my work but hopefully all goes well!

Anyways, I made a present for my friend for her birthday, its just a little collage of some of the things that she likes and other random things that we love. Although I didn't buy the extravagant frame for her, you get the idea! This is a scanned in version so the quality maybe not so great.
